Hi,
I was wondering what your opinion is about hand held power planers in general. My budget cannot handle the purchase of a jointer, so I am looking to get one of these instead of using a hand planer. The model that I am looking to buy is the Bosch GHO 40-82 C (sold in european market only)

I've been delinquent from the forums for a few weeks so I apologize for the delayed response. I hope my response comes in time to help.
I don't have a lot of experience with hand-held power planers except to trim the bottom of a door to fit a crooked floor in my house, and to rough surface a thick slab before hand planing.
I'd say they have their uses, but probably not as a complete replacement to a jointer. If you can't afford a jointer, I'd invest in a lunch-box size planer and build this planing sled to handle the jointing:

Similarly, you can use a router table to joint an edge:
