Bosch Model 1587AVSK Bosch Model 1584AVSK What’s the better tool handle grip or barrel? Does it all just come down to preference or is there an advantage to one or the other. thx cje |

IMO, I like the barrel grip better cuz you're closer to your work. It's kinda like signing your name with a pencil versus signing it with a giant pencil, putting you further away from the work (stock or lumber). But everyone has their preference.
I'm with JACPLANE, get the barrel grip. Have the same saw and wouldn't trade it.

I like the barrel grip, for the stated reasons. That's what I have. Two of 'em. (Don't ask!!)

I've had the barrel grip for several years. Couldn't be happier with it.

CJEDEN Try 'em both and see how they feel. I have the barrel grip too, but it took some getting used to. A Bosch rep told me the pistol grip outsells the barrel grip 5:1 so they often sell them at a bigger discount.

Barrel grip. I would not have given $.10 for any jig-saw I ever had till I got the Bosch barrel-grip. I have had some cheap ones. Now, I wouldn't use anything else. I find the barrel gives me much more control and touch.
The over-head handle does sell more. That's cause it looks conventional and most aren't even aware of the barrel. Most places only carry the over-head handle. Once you use it, there is doubt you're glad you took the time to compare.
A few might feel different as we all vary with taste.

you can put your hand on the top knob and spin a barrel grip
much harder to do with the handle grip.
However, the handle grip is easier to control if you have weak wrists. I love my barrel grip but my 82 y.o. dad finds it too hard to hold and prefers a handle grip

Why no one has suggested the obvious...
Get both.
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
Thanks for all the advice--now I have to make a decision
