I have a Bosch Colt PR20 palm rounter. I got one when the first one
hit the stores because I really liked the design. Still do. However,
I find that there is more vibration than I would like to see in a
router of this quality level. I mentioned this in a review of it
several months ago. It has much more vibration than my DeWalt trim
router, or for that matter, any of my routers. Maybe it is normal, but
I have not been able to compare it to other Colts to see if mine is an
exception or typical. The reason I am bringing it up here is that I
put a little LED light that Dremel is selling on it and the vibration
tends to make the light wink or flash (I assume due to the battery
contacts being vibrated).
Has anyone got experience with comparing the colt vibration with other
trim routers and can tell me their impressions?

You might want to contact Bosch, see what they have to say, and give them a chance to remedy what could be a defective product.

Ditto to Jazzdog. Pardon me for being cranky, but I really don't understand why you haven't taken this up with Bosch.

I did, but got kind of a nothing answer. Admittedly, I did not push it yet, because I did not know if it was "normal" or not.
Eric, the vibration could be comming from a number of sources. Take out the collet and try it. If it still has a lot of vibration then you do have a problem and should take it back to the dealer.
FYI, I just plugged one in and although it does have a small vibration it is not unaceptable nor detrimental to the operation of the unit. I can see how it might be amplified by using a router bit that would not be appropriate for this type of router. In the later, you must remember what this router is and is not. In reality this is not much more than a laminate trimmer on steroids. In fact the laminate trim base kits will be available for the colt sometime after the first of the year.
Compared to the vibration level of the Porter Cable 7310 laminate trimmer they are about the same.Steve

Mine has some vibration, but I don't find it excessive. The variable speed feature is nice for this, because you can slow down the larger bits to reduce the vibes. You can feel when the bit is traveling at about the right speed because there is a major decrease in the vibration when you get to a certain RPM as you slow the bit down. This is a very fast router when cranked up, 30,000 RPM they say. So I usually have it dialed down quite a bit for smoothness of operation. I have no complaints about mine so far.
We should ask Pat, but seems to me the experts say "No" vibration is not normal with a router and should be corrected ASAP. I assume vibration means movement that doesn't feel normal.

My PR20 has more vibration than my Dewalt trim router. The Dewalt is very smooth. I don't have a Porter Cable, so I can't compare against that one.
