HI ALL,
I own two bostitch nailers, a straight brad gun and an angled finish gun which my dad has the same model. Both of ours refuse to shoot consistently when nailing ceiling stock and downward facing jambs etc. anyone else have that problem and or any suggestions for a replacement
thanks

I have a framing nailer N88ww and palm nailer plus the little trim nailer. They've always worked well except one got loaded up with too much oil so I took it apart and cleaned it and it's been fine ever since.. MY 15 Gauage angle trim nailer I bought Hitachi due to it's well earned reputaion..
Thanks Frenchy,
Its like this thing has a mind of its own. I bet if I lent it to you, it would work fine until you gave it back.

I own a Bostich framer and the 15Ga finish gun.
If your guns have been used a lot, it is possible you need to replace the 0-rings, which is a pretty simple DIY affair (you need to buy a kit from Bostich).
How about oil? They need about 2 drops of oil (specifically for nail guns) every day you use them.
If none of the above seems likely, I would take them into a repair center. Bostich are good guns, and you should not be having this problem. All these guns are pretty simple mechanically, so repair costs are reasonable.
Like frenchy, if you are buying new guns these days, I would recommend Hitachi.

Hey Nikkiwood,
I am wondering about the oil.
I do oil it even though it claims to not need oil. It only acts this way on upward shots.
WHen o rings have gone out on other guns I can hear a hissing sound.
Thanks for your input!!

If your guns are designed to function without oil,and you have oiled them anyway, that might well be your problem. I buy my guns from an outlet that also does repairs, and with the last one I bought the sales guy told me if I put oil in an oiless gun, I would mess it up, and it would cost me $60 for them to fix it. I can't tell you why this is so, but I decided to buy an oiled gun, so I wouldn't have to remember which gun needed oil and which didn't.********************************************************

About the oil/no oil thing. It has to do with the materials they use in the seals,o-rings and certain plastics. They can not come in contact with oil or they will actually begin to dissolve. Years back we plumbers used to use this grey(oil-based) pipe dope that we would slather on all threaded joints, then started getting call backs because everything was leaking. Thats why we started using teflon tape/paste almost exclusively. One more important fact is if you have plastic pipe in your sewer/drain system DON'T throw any oil based compounds down them as they could start softening.
Actually, there's better reasons not to dispose of waste petroleum products via your sewage system -- whether civil or private septic. However, if some knucklehead does it anyway, then hopefully his plastic pipe is pvc, as abs is not nearly as resistant to chemicals. On second thought, if this fictitious moron were to do that, then hopefully every plastic pipe in the house would disolve, dripping sewage and waste water everywhere -- that would fix him!
