Well, I finally did it. I went to purchase a Powermatic 66 yesterday and ended up buying the General 650. I know I would be happy with either but here’s why I went with General. 1. Extension wings leading edges contour squarely against the table where PM bevels their extensions on the leading edges (but the main table’s leading edge is squared-off). 2. Beefier miter guage (much taller handle) 3. Metal motor cover 4. Like the bladeguard/splitter/pawls setup better. 5. The General-T fence operation(smoooooth). 6. Also has a U.S. made Baldor motor. 7. $200 less than the PM 66. I’m putting the finishing touches on my new shop (mudding/sanding drywall compound, putting up trim, priming and painting). I’m having it delivered the first week of September. They are delivering at no charge. I think the PM 66 is a GREAT saw, but I went with the 650 because of the above reasons. I’ll let you know what I think after I set it up and make some sawdust. | |
