In the videos covering the construction of the Bow Arm Morris Chair the offset for the mortises in the chair arms is called out as one inch. The plans from “American Furniture Design”, however, show the offset to be 1/2 inch. Can someone please verify which dimension is correct? Video’s were done by Gregory Paolini of Fine Woodworking.

I believe you are talking about the distance from the inside face of the arm to the edge of the mortise where the leg pierces the arm. I believe the 1/2" dimension is correct. The arm overhangs the inside of the leg by 1/8" and then add the 3/8" from the edge of the leg to the setback for the tenon at the top of the leg, it gives you 1/2". I think if the offset was an inch there would not be enough room for the back to fit between the arms.
Thank you for pointing that out. When I looked back at the plans I also realized that a one inch offset would leave far too much of a span for the back pivot pin to handle. Don’t know why I didn’t see that earlier. Thanks again!
