Looking for a source of bow saw blades for my old(?) 20″ KP bow saw. For some reason the blade went AWOL while saw was in storage. All I can find right now are 24″ in catalogs and on ‘net. Please help as I feel a Tage Frid moment coming on.

Could you modify a 24" blade? Grind off the ends, grind off some teeth, drill some new holes. You might have to do some spot annealing to drill the holes with a HSS drill, or you could grind them with a Dremel tool instead.
Good idea! Tho' I would do it with some trepidation as I'm not much of a metal worker. Ah-what the heck! I'm not much of a woodworker either. Thanks.
I have made a couple of bow saws and used a couple of blades I came across.
Although I have looked, I have not been able to find much. Woodcraft does sell one type of bow saw blade and Lee Valley another.
Anyone out there know a good source for a variety of sizes and ppi bow saw blades?

Try band saw blades you just have to anneal the ends before drilling
try googling ece tools or dick gmbh... both are euro dealers. i have ordered from dick with no problems, and you can get a good deal depending on the exchange rate...
Thanks. Looks like Dick Gmbh may be the supplier I'm looking for.
Highland hardware in Atlanta sells a Danish Bowsaw with a 20.5 inch blade. They say in their catalog that Tage Frid identifies it as one of his favorites. Spare blades at 1 3/8" X 20 1/2" are available for $10.99. Might work for you. I have one of these. The blade is 8 tpi. I have actually made some halting, fumbling progress in teaching myself to sharpen saw blades with this guy.

Item no. 058302
They have a cool catalog, too.

Edit: The bowsaw itself is item no. 058301. May be the same one that you have.

Thanks Ed. I'll give'em a call forthwith and talk with their techies and see if we have a match.
FYI-In my search I went to several German sites. Lo and behold- most feature Japanese saws and the few that sell the frame/bow saw sell them with Japanese blades. How's that for a curious turn of affairs?
Good luck. I have zero experience with Japanese blades but a lot of others here do. I want to be able sharpen my own saw blades and I've heard that Japanese blades are difficult to sharpen.
Good point! I'd not thought of that.
