I recently saw a product, either advertised or discussed in a building publication, that can be used to box in a metal support post. I don’t remember where I saw it. I have 3 1/2 inch posts in my basement that I want to enclose in a square wooden box. The product I saw fits around the post and creates a surface to which the wooden box can be attached. Does anyone know about this product or where I might find it? A Google search has produced nothing. Thanks.

Thanks much; I'll check it out. DS
You may have found these already, but I think this is what you are talking about.

Just what I need; thanks very much.
I used pine 1x6, ripped two pcs a bit narrower so the box was square. Leave a 1/8" reveal with the shorter boards when assembling with finish nails.
Berky, thanks. I have seen that configuration; it looks real nice. DS
Thinking about beveling them? :-)

i know you said square post. but i have bought round hollow porch post at lowes or hd and cut them in half long ways
then cut slots in them for biscuts and glued the two halves together around the steel basement post and clamped them with rachet straps
sanded them up real good, primed and painted
