When making jigs I often want to be able to use temporary guides and stop blocks. I would like to use brads but the brads I have are difficult if not impossible to remove. They appear to be coated with glue or some kind of adhesive. Are there brads that are removable? If so what are they called?

They make duplex nails down to 4d. But they are hard to find. Last ones I got were at a Surveyors supply.
6d duplex nails are easier to find, and 1-3/4 inch long from the bottom head to the tip. Which may work depending on what you are doing.
I bevel one edge of the temporary board to make it easy to get something under it to pry it up, and then use narrow crown staples to attach it.
I have also taken to using face frame screws. They drive easily, with out predrilling, and the square recess makes them easy to get in and out.
I assume you are talking pneumatic nail gun brads. They typically have an adhesive coating. It's part of the binder that holds the clip together. I've never had problems removing them. Use the 15 or 16 gauge brads.
