Hi everyone,
Am planning on making a curio cabinet using Brazilian Cherry. Since it is a somewhat coarse grained wood, I am looking for any tips/suggestions on finishing this wood. I have tested it with some tung oil which brings up the grain nicely. Haven’t tried multiple coats yet though.
thanks

Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) takes a finish quite nicely. I've had good luck with lacquer, shellac and oil/varnish. Jatoba is very hard, so scrape or sand well before finishing, whatever you do choose.
Many thanks for the reply, it does seem like a beautiful wood. Heavy and, as I said, somewhat coarse grained but have been reading an interesting article about using pumice stone and boiled linseed oil to fill it. Maybe I will try some of that this weekend.

Dennis,
You can use the pumice or just sand using BLO...working up to finer grits with additional applications of the BLO.
Thanks, will give it a shot this weekend.
