Jamestown Fasteners, they have everything you can imagine, at the right price too !

They really do have everything. 'need a 6-32 machine screw in titanium? I think they're only $6 each. ;)
No minimum order, low shipping and handling charges, and they ship right away.
I've shifted over from brass wood screws to machine screws for alot of applications (I tap the wood). That means getting "odd ball" machine screws that look like wood screws: slotted, oval head, #5-40, etc. McMaster has them.
EDIT: Guess what? They don't have any bronze #8 wood screws. They do have a 1" #8-32 slotted silicon bronze machine screws (#93170A199); depending in the wood you could tap it.

How do you find the longevity with tapped wood, as opposed to installing a threaded insert? I've installed inserts recently because I feared that with repeated install/remove cycles, the threaded wood would start to fray.My goal is for my work to outlast me. Expect my joinery to get simpler as time goes by.
jamestown, i think is the place thank you all again for your support
lets go yankees
I think if you were doing repeated removals, inserts would be the way to go. I'm not confident of the longevity of the threads in the wood.
I've been working with white oak alot lately, and the tapped wood works great. It's stronger than a brass screw: I can snap the head off a screw by tightening it. 'can't say that softer woods would works as well, but for dense woods it works great.
BTW, I looked at the Jamestown, and yes it is the place for marine-grade hardware!
Jamestown Distributors. I use them for brass brads, copper and brass tacks and for ringshanked common bronze nails.
I laid a floor of planked white ash in my log home and face nailed the boards with the bronze nails, after pre-drilling because they won't go through the ash without pre-drilling, and they are NEVER coming out.
Made a great looking floor.
