At the moment i´m finishing a cabinet with a pu-acrylic varnish and i´m getting brush marks, quite a lot. I´m using a synthetic brush, suited for acrylic finishing products. I use the varnish straight out of the can, no water added. Maybe it´s got to do something with the reasonably high shop temperature, finally we´ve got some nice weather. After putting on a coat, it dries really quickely, almost less than a minute. Can i solve this by adding water, although it is advised not to. Thanks for giving me some pointers.

George,
What exactly is
i pu-acrylic varnish
?
What are the temperature and humidity ranges that the manufacturer recommends for use and what does the manufacturer recommend for thinning?

*Polyurethaan water-based varnish. I live in Belgium so it could have another name in your country. Today it was a lot colder and there was no diference in the brush marks. I´ve also tried a foam-applicator, but you lose a lot of control by using this (over a brush). The first coat is thinned with 10% water and the following coats are put on straight out of the can.I´ve always had this problem with water-based finishes. Never had it when i used an oil-varnish to finish a musical instrument.
*George,I have only had one experience with a water based finish (Deft) that was over 15 years ago, stayed away from them ever since. The only time I use a water based product is when I use latex paint. Sorry, hopefully someone more qualified than I will drop by. You might try re posting on the main board where the traffic is higher or perform a search here.Dano
