Hello,
I’m trying to repair my kitchen table. Something hot was placed on it and it now has bubbles, where the wood has raised up. It is a Oak table however it is not solid wood the top has 1/8-1/4 inch overlay. The bubbles are not large but there are a few of them. I have refinished tables and other furniture before but I have never tried to remove bubbles. Is there any hope?

If the surface is veneer then the substrate more than likely particle board. The bubbles sounds like mosture penetration. This causes the particle board to swell. I have run across quite a few of these and have yet to find an acceptable repair. The best effort was by routing out the section and replacing the removed substratewith wood. I then trimed a piece of veneer to fit. Be sure and glue the filler block in with epoxy PASTE or the particle board will soak up the glue and swell again.
