Hello everyone. I hope someone can help me with an unusual request. I am building a jewelry chest for my daughter for the holidays out of Bubinga. I am looking for a photograph of a large bubinga tree to add to a packet I am putting together for her about the material. She’s very interested in Africa and animals and I thought she would enjoy having some background about this exotic wood that her chest is constructed from. Does anyone have an electronic copy of a photo of a large bubinga tree that I might be able to use? These trees are supposed to live near water holes and it would be nice for my daughter to be able to put the wood into perspective with the tree and the surrounding environment.
On a larger note, it would be nice to have an online resource with photos of the trees from which these woods come. I find it very interesting to go back to the source and learn more about the tree that provided the material. I’ve had little luck searching online for my bubinga photo or a similar resource. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.
Rick

Thanks everyone for your help with the photos. I was able to put together a nice information sheet for my daughter to accompany her jewelry chest Christmas gift. It really added to the enjoyment for her and I'm thankful for your help in making it happen. Have a great new year!

And part of a Bubinga tree found a wonderful home!
Well, here you go. This one we brought into Germany for sawing. They do not come much bigger.

The real thing. Here is another photo from a differnet angle. It took two days to cut large chunks off of the log so as to allow transport to the sawmill in Germany.
Do you have any idea how many board feet will come out of this?
give or take 4000-4500 bf.
Pommele I have just put up this post, any chance you could help?

A Dalmer Saw
Hey Pommele, Do you have any more shots of this saw? I would like to see more of the detail.
