I want to make a buck saw But I can’t find a source to buy the hardware from (turnbuckle, etc.) that would look decent. I’ve already looked at marine turnbuckles and they are too slender and long. I already have a good source for the blade. Any ideas?

Are you committed to using a turnbuckle? One alternative is a twisted string with a crossbar. Another is a wingnut on one end of the tension rod. Do a Google image search for
"buck saw" OR "bow saw"
and you'll see lots of pictures of all three kinds of tensioners, with turnbuckles by no means the majority.
I really like the look of the turnbuckle I guess. I might ask my father if he could make one that would look close enough to what I'm thinking of. Sometimes its really nice that he is a machinist. thanks
I wouldn't bother with a turnbuckle myself, but if you need one , Homedepot or Lowes sells them in many sizes. I use rope and a stick like another post mentioned.

There is an idea around that puts a wooden collar in the string twist with a rectangular hole in it. The 'paddle' slides fairly easily throug the hole to make adjustment easier.
I made one a few years before I bought a band saw and still use it. The best string I could find was a second hand piece of baling twine - threewraps - this stuff has no stretech and is very strong. (also comes in yellow, blue and orange depending on your source of hay)
The collar is a great idea, I'll make one for my saw.
