I have chronic tendinitis in my forearms, and therefore cannot do extensive rubbing with steel wool or buffing with a cloth without reaggravating the pain. A lot of finishes like tried and true emphasize the need for significant buffing to achieve a nice final finish. I’m wondering if anyone has used a product for a 5 inch random orbital sander that would allow a nice final buffing in lieu of hand rubbing with 0000 steel wool? Thanks

I have a lambswool pad that I use on my 5" Bosch...hook & loops to the machine just like the sandpaper. It is more of a buffing tool seeking a higher polish. I suppose it would save you some time before cutting it back with the steel wool.
What is the desired speed for polishing? A RAS may spin too fast. My Rupes Bigfoot car polisher, which is a top model, spins at less than half the slowest speed of my Mirka Ceros RAS.

Thanks, hadn’t thought of a car buffer. What rpm seems good?
Derek is right. Even if he is from the opposite side of the planet :)
Seriously, the best choice is a polisher designed for the job. If the issue is cost, then you are stuck with the ROS.
Derek, Perth is literally at the end of the road. How is it getting the tools and supplies you need? And are the local woods good for furniture?
I just use a buffing pad from the auto parts store in my drill.
Thanks, Does it have a stem to put in the chuck?
I have a Dewalt polisher/buffer that has variable speed control. Use if all the time when I put wax on with 4 aught steel wool. I am very happy with it.
Thanks, I’ll check it out.
