Will appreciate any advice on building a vacuum veneering press.
Looking at a venturi system, as I have a big compressor. Seems as if Joe Woodworker has the best deal on the venturi pump as well as parts.
Looked at vinyl bags at Wallmart last night, they are used for clothes storage and have a zip lock at one end, with a special vacuum cleaner attachment, to get out the initial air. At around $9.00 for a 50″ x 38″ bag, they seem ideal for this job. Has anyone tried them?

Hey Jelly,
Sound's like a great idea. At $9.00, you can afford to experiment.
I'm planning on a vacuum press in the near future as well. If you go with the clothing bags, let us know how it works.

I made a bag from vinyl material purchased from a fabric store, roll material about 54 " wide, and about 8 mils thick. There is a glue available online, cant remember the website, but I think you can find it through joe woodworker. I fold over and clamp the bag opening between boards. I found an old medical vacuum pump that I connect to a programable timer switch so the pump cycles off and on every few minutes to maintain the desired vacuum.

I have not bought from this site yet, but it looks to be a good link if you are going to be buying everything.. http://www.acp-composites.com/ACP-cat.htm
