Where could I find ideas for built in bookcases? I dabble in woodworking since my main “job” is a stay at home mom and am thinking of tackling this by myself(husband doesn’t do anything at his 100 year old dream house!) I think I will have to paint it since all my woodwork is painted…unfortunately, and I have oak floors but my preference is for pine. I don’t think that I should mix woods as far as the builtins are concerned. Thanks for any ideas/help.

There are lots of photos of built-in bookcases all over, but I can't direct you to any one in particular.
As far as the choice of wood, to my eye oak and pine do not look well together because the graining is so different. If I were to go with any wood at all, I'd choose oak or ash or maybe mahogany.
Since you sound like woodworking is a fairly new hobby to you, painted bookcases are not a bad idea, especially since your woodwork is painted. Putty can cover a lot of oopses, and paint is much easier than clear finishes. You can find an awful lot of moldings and such in paintable woods and synthetic materials. If you wanted a stained and varnished finish you'd have to mill the moldings yourself or hope to find just the right one in a store.
Thanks. Sometimes what I want and what looks best are not the same thing. I don't have the tools for mill work... just very basic tools.
Taunton Press publishes a book with a title like "Built-in Furniture", by Jim Tolpin. It has photos for ideas, and a lot of construction info too.
