I’m aware that Burr Oak is similar to, and in fact often sold as, White Oak. My question is, does Burr Oak have the same resistance to decay in outdoor use as White Oak does. Obviously, Cedar, Redwood or some treated is usually used but I’d like to trim my house with hardwood. I have quite a bit of rough-sawn Burr Oak and I’m wondering if I can go ahead and use it?

Kurt,
Burr oak ,Quercus macrocarpa is in the subgenera of white oaks called Leucobalanus. It is very similar to white oak, Quercus alba, so I would not see any reason not to use it or treat it as you would white oak.
