Had a three day weekend and got a lot done in the shop. Got three coats of finish on the 2 chairs, built four tables, and built three footstols. Hope to get finish put on everything else this week. The only part I didn’t get made was the top for the cherry and maple end table. The walnut ones got solid tops but the cherry one is getting a veneered birdseye maple and cherry top.
I even managed to get the shop straightened up a bit but it’s still a disaster. Oh well, I like building better than cleaning anyway.

Geez.... You're working to hard on that end of town. Is this commission projects or personal?

The chairs were commisioned. I built eight more of the while I was at it. I am keping six for my dining room and will make a couple of writing desks to go with the other two and put them on consignment. The small end tables are designed to go with the morris type recliner I built and I'll keep a couple of them and consign the others. The footstools are designated for some recliners that are already built.

Just curious, do you have a place you can put them on con-signment? I assume you do, but I have a few leads up in L'ville on the square if you don't. If interested you can e-mail. You may have all you can handle in that neck of the woods.

Holy Smokes, you must work at Warp Speed, Tom! Great chairs, BTW, really gorgeous.

Everything went faster than usual thanks to the fact that I had already built a prototype and had some really good jigs made. The legs on all the tables and footstools have a slight tapered radius on all four sides and the original took a while to devise the jigs. Once the initial setup is made the rest of the parts go quickly.
I use a homemade slot mortiser for all the joinery and I have a couple of templates set up for it to do the multiple mortises for the side slats quickly. Probably took 15 mins to cut the 48 mortises for the side slats and another 15 mins to square them up with a chisel. Just a matter of getting a good rythm going and having each step planned out.

I need some one like you to live closer to me and show me how a guy can get that much done in three days, and still clean up some!
You don't have to heat your shop like I do up here Michigan, It takes time for us to fuss with the fire or how ever we have to heat our shops in this cold climate. I'm a part time furniture builder and a lot of furniture repairs, 20 years plus working in the furniture industry. And I have no wife to draw me away form my work. but.. I need a bigger shop. 2 stall garage don't cut it! and it hasn't seen a car in over 18 yrs.
Looks like nice work,
