I hope I’m not sounding like a complete idiot…I am relatively new at woodworking.
What I’d like to know is how to butt join a piece of masonite that’s wrapped around a cylindrical form. The masonite is 1/8 inch and when I overlap it and cut it, it’s alway too long, i’e, it won’t butt join at the same circumference. I tried cutting it at a 45 degree angle instead of the 90 degree…that seems to work.
By the way, the cylinder is 24 inches long (high) and 16 inches in diameter. Eventually I’ll be working on 24 inch long cylinders 30 inches in diameter. I’d appreciate if anyone can
HELP!!!

Hey Dale,
I have seamed plastic laminate this way so I am sure it would work on masonite. What I do is make one edge straight with a router and straight edge then wrap it around the form gluing only the first 3/4 to the form. Wrap the remaining so that it can be marked at the edge you made straight. Mark both top and bottom . Use clamps and a straight edge to trim to your marks. Make sure to err on the plus side because once it's too short you have a mess. Apply glue and clamps. Sanding your masonite seam may be needed but don't over do it. Hope this helps.
