Hi all,
does a template such as the one pictured cut the mortise as well as the corresponding key? OR do u use it to cut out the key and then hand cut the mortise after scribing to size? Hopr that makes sense.
Thanks,
BD

The secret is in the collet diameter
Either the template must have two related sizes (one slightly larger to make the key) or a second collet of smaller diameter is required to make the offset.
If it was me, I would use the template to make the keys and use the router to establish the depth in your mortice.
Use a Router Inlay Kit
It looks like you have a router inlay kit in your router. If that is true then you would use the same template to route both the key/inlay and the recess/moritse. See the instructions, attached.

Thanks for the advise fellas. I have just bought the bushings for my router and will prob look to buy the template as pictured.
