I purchased a 14 rockewell in 1978 and it has worked well ever since, recently replaced the tires, nothing fancy, but I did upgrade to a 2 hp motor a few years after i got it. it sees a few hours of work each week. Just get a good one and learn to use it.

Lowes is having a sale this weekend on Delta 14" $365 with the stand. Looks like a good time to buy. I'm trying to talk the boss into letting me buy one....hhhmmm....what does she want that I would need a bandsaw to build?
I just bought a Jet 14" bandsaw. I think Jet has a 10% off sale this month. I did some nosing around before I bought and found there seemed to be a lot of activity regarding problems with the Deltas. You might check some of the other threads.
A second to Stoneaxe. I did it a couple of years ago. It is my favorite stationary power tool.

Santafenick,
When I bought my saw I bought by price and ended up with a Jet. That was in late 1997 (December 10th to be exact) and it has been an excellent machine, standing up to hard everyday use. I did replace the spring with an aftermarket one of better quality, I eventually put on one of the link belts, and a couple of years ago, I put all new bearings on it.

I have heard some favorable reviews of the Craftman 14" bandsaw as well.
It appears to be a fairly new design. With a craftsman club card, these can be had for very good deals (sometimes you have to wait a while for the right sale).
Please understand, I don't own this bandsaw, nor have I been able to use one in person... I've just read some favorable reviews. I just wanted to make sure you didn't overlook any potentially good options.
Personally, I use a laguna 16" saw. It is spectacular. If you were able to find a used model of their 14" saw, you couldn't go wrong with that imho... but they cost a lot more than your other 14" saws.
Thanks. Have heard good things about Laguna 16". Am leaning towards powermatic at this point.
WMH Tool Group (Jet. PM etc) always seems to have a sale of some sort. I bought the 14" Powermatic about six months ago, and am very happy with it. The castings may or may not be the same as the Jet, but it seems to have a lot more beef than most if not all of the 14" machines out there. Plus, it is loaded up with all of the upgrades one would feel compelled to add to another machine, the Carter Guide system, the rip fence, the light, the tension lever, etc. This was my third purchase of a Powermatic machine, and while they may not be what they were 20 or 30 years ago, I still think for my money they are one of the better machines out there. I have been very happy with my PM purchases, and would have not problem recommending them. In fact, when I finally upgrade my 50's Craftsman Table Saw, I will probably buy a Powermatic, but will look at Saw Stop, Steel City, and a used machine before I buy.

Interesting suggestion about the Craftsman 14" bandsaw. Looks (on the web) like it might be a Rikon? Anybody know anything about this?
I've had a few Craftsman tools way back - mostly junk. Exception was a 12 1/2" planer bot many years ago that was a jewel. Sold it and sorry i did.
I think you are right that this saw is VERY similar to the Rikon.
Probably comes from the same factory. One perk would be that one could save on shipping costs if purchasing from a local sears. I've heard positive user reviews of this BS as well as the professional series hybrid/cabinet table saw (a FWW best buy) ... Perhaps sears is getting better?
Check out Jet/Powermatic, Good sale going on through the end of the month. 14"Powermatic in particular, Carter guides and carter quick tension release and enough HP to add a riser block for reswaing.
Caution on the Lowes Delta it may be only 3/4 HP.

I think you're right about powermatic.
Keep that 10deg. left tilt in mind, you may want to do bandsaw dovetails some day.

Yes, last project i needed the 10 deg. which is why i'm paying attention.
One would think bandsaw co. would come out with at least 15 deg. left tilt, just to beat the competition? Thanks for your input.
