I would first like to say that I have been reading through the messages on the forum for awhile now and have gotten some great info. Thanks. I am just starting to get into woodworking more, as I finally have a garage to do it in. I have been doing alot of research on bandsaws lately and was leaning toward the jet 14″, it seems to be a good saw for the money. Then I came across an 8 year old jet 18″ bandsaw for sale. It looks more like the 14″ new ones. It has a 12″ resaw, 2hp motor ( although it is set to run on 110 now), and doesn’t seem to be to heavily used. I have not been able to fined any information on these saws and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them? Any suggestions on price? What to look for? I think I could get it for $500 maybe less. Just trying to figure out if this would be a better deal then buying the 14″ new. I will be building furniture mostly, things for my own house. Any comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks again.

If you don't want it, I'll take it. Paperwork or not.
Be seeing you...
I have a 14" bandsaw and given a choice between it and an 18" unit, I'd JUMP on the bigger one.
As long as the frame or table isn't cracked and the guides/bearings haven't been so badly abused that the mounts have to be replaced, the only other problem areas would be tires, motor and bearings and those things can be repaired/replaced easily.
I also own a Jet 14" band saw with riser block. I have also upgraded the guide blocks to the Carter Bandsaw Guides and boy did they make a difference especially during re-sawing. It sounds to me that you have discovered an exceptional deal. My guess is that it will not take much work to bring this saw back to life/making it better than life. Good luck - MSD
