A guy I know wants to sell me a very slightly used Tornado 2000 wet/dry vacuum. I looked it up on the net and they sell new for $380.00. My question is, this vacuum has a “bypass” motor. Can somebody tell me what a bypass motor is and what advantage this vacuum has over vacuums that don’t have a bypass motor? The guy wants $100.00 for it, all attachments included. Thanks.

Bypass on a vac. usually means it has a separate fan for cooling the motor so if the hose or filter get restricted the motor won't overheat. It's a good feature.
Thank you dgreen for the information. I'm going to buy that vacuum tomorrow and stick it under my radial arm saw. About the only thing I don't like about it is the 11 gallon tank, I wish it was bigger.
The Tornado 2000 Wet/Dry Vac only has an 1.5" diameter hose. You may run into a clogging issue if used with the radial arm saw. The vacuum doesn't have the chip removal efficiency that a 2+" diameter hose, or better yet a 4" diameter dust collector would have.
It a good machine for a descent price - buy may lack the clean up (for the RAS) that you're looking for.

I've not used one much but he might try one of those covers for a garbage can that spins the dust down to the bottom of the can with little dust even going to the vacuum cleaner itself. A larger hose from saw to can and he has conquered both the small hose and small storage capacity problems.
