I am trying to figure out the design of the feet on this piece. I looked at Issue #68 article on chest of drawers and I have seen photos. The question I have is of the front piece below the bottom drawer. This piece looks like one solid piece of wood that has a curve that runs along the bottom but if you see the photos there are diagonal lines along where the curve turns to run vertical and this suggests that small posts are mitered to the curved piece.
I do not understand what is going on here – never seeing this item in person. I also assume, based on the illustration in Issue 68 that there are reinforcing glue blocks behind the curved front piece and the sides.
A couple more questions: the front piece – is it flush with the side edges? How is the front piece joined – is it just a butt joint to the dovetailed web frame front piece aboce and also butt-joined to the sides?
I just ask this out of curiosity more than anything. My guess is that the front piece is designed with those diagonal cuts to avoid wasting a wide board by mitering the vertical parts to the curve.
This is one of those questions where I wish I could just inspect the piece up front to figure it out – any enlightenment is appreciated – Tom

I think that project has the base made with an asymmetrical splined miter and attached with glue blocks.
This one does for sure:
