dont know if you recieved any help on this yet..but what i have done when i was first starting out was go to a place like blowes or Hd ikea ect and bring the measurements of the kitchen they wil design a kitchen for you. so get a copy of their plans and there ya go.
I just built some practice cabinets for my garage. They helped me get the feel of what I needed to do for 3 kitchens I have on my project list for this next year.
Everything I have picked up to this point came from "Building Kitchen Cabinets" by Udo Schmidt (Taunton's) and "Building Traditional Kitchen Cabinets" by Jim Tolpin (Taunton's). Both books have their strong and weak points but I would recommend getting them. I would note that although I much prefered Schmidt's book, you need to be carefull of the errors in any measurements in the book. There are some big mistakes and odd gaps in it. Neither book by itself is a clear "step #1, step #2, Step #3..." type book but they give enough information that you can draw up your own custom plans and get going.

My first woodworking book and still one of my favorites

In case anyone doesn't want to follow the link, that's "Building Your Own Kitchen Cabinets: Layout - Materials - Construction - Installation" by Jere Cary.
