cabinetry style hinges for custom interior doors
hi FWW,
After building a lot of cabinets using Blum hardware, I’m looking to build some custom batten doors and finding door hardware comparatively lacking. For doors that don’t lock, why don’t we operate doors like a cabinet door? I see that SOSS makes a concealed hinge closer, but I don’t want bedroom doors to always be shut, I would really just like a soft close function where you can swing the door like a cabinet door and have it smoothly glide into position when you close it. Is there a good option for this? I’ve seen some pretty ugly commercial style arms. Would it be feasible to just use some concealed hinges and add an array of soft close pistons?
thanks for any feedback

The Blum euro hinges I use are soft close. Are the Blum's you've used lacking that feature?
I think he's asking for a full size interior door, like into a room.
I've never seen anything like that. Even the door closers (commercial, or screen door style) are just closers and will always attempt to close the door. I don't think I've ever seen a 'partial' closer...
The closest thing I can think of are the electronic opener/closer units like you would see in a hospital.
Ah, I see it now. I've never seen anything but the commercial door closers either.
Sorry if I wasn't clear, I've updated the title. Yes, I mean for interior bedroom doors. There are cabinet doors that come close to that size, however, and opening cabinet doors just feels so much smoother and quieter than twisting handles. I've seen concealed hinges from SOSS and sugatsune, I'm wondering if I can apply something like closet dampeners to get the same effect.
If they don't exist, would adding dampeners to a full size door be a bad idea? I don't know why this isn't a thing. Imagine a pantry door with a cabinet pull that smoothly closes like a cabinet door. Why not?
It's not a single piece, but I have seen it done with self-closing spring hinges like on a door that opens from inside into a garage (they are available as replacements for standard door hinges and have adjustable tension for just the right closing force), spring loaded ball catch instead of a regular doorknob catch, and a magnetic door holder for when you want the door to stay open
I have seen this done in high end homes in Napa, worked great. Never have to turn any handles which is nice if your hands are full, and they add a deadbolt for security.
Selby hardware has hinges for commercial kitchens that have ramped leaves, closing doors with gravity. They are in the Bronx, NYC.
thanks, but I was unable to find the commercial kitchen hinges on Selby's website, or it may be I just don't know what they look like
try this?

Or this?

You can also search for another name for them, 'gravity hinge' or 'self function hinge'
Is it possible to make these self-closing hinges only activate when the door is almost closed, like a blum hinge? While it may just take some getting used to, I could see that having self closing doors in the house being annoying, much like self closing cabinets would be.
For dampening, I did find these dampers that could be resessed into the jamb: https://www.salice.com/ww/en/products/dampers-and-release-devices/dampers-external-and-to-be-recessed/smove-d008sn . I think without a closing mechanism that activates at say, 25%, however, I suspect these would just cause the door to bounce back.
I found this gravity hinge that states:
"The automatic closing radius of the door can be adjusted by angles of 18° (Must be adjusted during installation)"
That at least sounds like what I want? That it will only activate at say 18-36 degrees from closed position?

just to update this post in case anyone finds this post and is wondering the same thing, after a very long search I decided the best solution is to use a hidden door dampener, sugatsune ldd-v. I was unable to find a hinge that did a soft, self closing that only activated when almost closed. I am going to build a prototype to test. Excellent information! Thanks for sharing it.
Hello all, here is the door in action. I’m not sure how long it will hold up, but the sugatsune door damper worked out really well for replicating a cabinet style soft close.
