Hi, I have just completed a cabinet and made some hand carved knobs for the drawers. What I’m looking for is a place to puchase the metal shanks that connect the knob to the cabinet. I’m not even sure what they are called but it is the piece that goes in between the knob and drawer front. Can anyone help me with a source? Thanks

Are you looking for the screws? Hope I'm not missing something obvious here. You can use either coarse-thread wood screws, break-away machine screws or regular 8-32 machine screws.

What I'm looking for is the metal shank the screw goes into and attaches to the knob. Do you know any vendor for this? Thanks
Sorry, no luck. All of the knobs I've ever used or seen in catalogs involve the screw going from the inside of the drawer or door, directly into the wooden knob. Haven't noticed any with spacers, as the base of the knob is a spacer, yes?
Unless you're talking about an insert. Hmmmmm, do I sound confused?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
sounds to me like you're looking for spacers; usual attachment is by screw (machine or wood as appropriate to your handle) through face of drawer on inside, then through spacer made or bought, then into handle. a picture of the handle - or fuller description of it - might aid in giving you help.
Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for.
I'm not sure if this will be what you are looking for, but you might consider 'stand-offs' or 'spacers' used in the electronic industry. Stand-offs are threaded, in various configurations, e.g. male-male, male-female, etc. Spacers have clearance holes (not threaded). Both are available a range of lengths and thread sizes. I've seen round, square and hex profiles. Material and finishes are very limited.
There are a lot of sources, you might start with Keystone (http://www.keyelco.com)
If hsimpson is on the right track, Keystone, Amatom or McMaster Carr have what you need. But you will probably run into minimum order limits. You should be able to find some at Home Deplot or a good hardware store.
Drill glue press in tight fit, your cooking.
Doh! Edit/Add: Check WW catalogs for threaded inserts, wood screw threads on the outside and machine screw threads on the inside. I've used them for making adjustable jigs and fixtures. Size may be a problem, they tend to come in the larger sizes.
Enjoy, Roy

Roy:
Thanks for the vendor names, I'll be sure to check them out.
