I see halogen cabinet lights more and more. I must be missing something. The dern lights burn hotter than the flash point of wood. I would have guessed that OSHA would not allow them to be installed in flammabible materials.
How come they are being used and sold?

I think it's all about the bulb wattage. I have halogen "pucks" under my kitchen cabinets and the wood never even gets warm to the touch. I've also used halogen "rope" lighting on some cabinets and the plastic tube is only slightly warm - even after being on for a couple of hours. Both styles use low wattage bulbs.
My halogen worklight, however, has two 500w bulbs and could barbeque meat at five paces. I never use it in the summer and it doubles as a space heater during the winter. - lol
I may be wrong here but I don't believe OSHA has any thing to do with that stuff. OSHA is about safety in the work place.

Do yourself a favor: substitute Xenon for Halogen bulbs. Xenon lights burn cooler, give off whiter light and tend to last longer. Interchangeability assumes both are 12V with identical bi-pin attachments.
Don,
As mentioned try Xexon lights vs halogen.
Also I met a company based in Florida at the Atlanta IWF and they have both 12volt and 120 volt LED lighting, pricing was reasonable. You might try a search on google or yahoo....and I will see if I can find their brochure/catalog and get back with you.
