I am planning a remodel of our master bathroom and will be building the cabinets. The face frames will be cherry. I have two questions. One, what topcoat would you recommend considering the humidity in a bathroom? And, what material would you recommend for the carcase construction ? Thank you so much for your advice.

we build bath vanitys all the time in the cabinet shop i work in and we use plywood and seal/finish with either:
Vinyl sealer then a cab-acrylic laquer or
water based laquer
So far no call back after 15 years.
we did have to shave a few doors recently Cherry frame and panel with 2_1/4" stiles. the original gap was 1/8 all around but the doors got a ton of abuse and swelled almost shut. i think most of the finsh was worn off...
Great advice, thank you very much.
Lacquers and urethanes of many different configurations work effectively for bathroom case work. Try to find a commercial supplier and ask for advice that is in line with your situation. We have used a lot of pre-finished birch and maple plywood for carcass construction. It saves a ton of work and hassle dealing with trying to finish cabinet interiors.

Great advice, thank you very much. Jim
From my DIY viewpoint, I second Uncle Pablo-the prefinished plywood is nice-the finish is probably harder than you could apply on site and it saves a lot of time.
Built bath vanities and so on from various woods. Always used Waterlox on them (surfaces) and never a problem at all, even years later.
