Can anyone suggest a source for red oak and other cabinet grade plywood in south central NC? I’m closest to Raleigh, Sanford, or Fayetteville. Best bet I’ve been able to find so far is two hours away. Thanks.

I don't know your area, but Columbia Forest Products, one of the main manufacturers of plywood in the U.S., lists two distributors near you on its website (columbiaforestproducts.com):
Wurth Wood - Raleigh
4213 Poole Road
Raleigh, NC 27610
919-231-6620
Interstate Distributors
798 George Perry lee Rd.
Dunn, NC 28335
910-892-4143
You might give them a call for more info.

One of the biggest distributors of sheet goods in the Raleigh area is Raleigh Hardwood - this is the same store as the previous poster identified as "Wurth Wood Group" (that's the parent company).
They carry many standard cabinet plywoods, as well as exotics such as mahogany-faced plywoods. One word of warning - I wouldn't suggest purchasing solid wood from them, as they have a bizarre pricing system. They'll quote you a price per board foot as would any other lumber dealer, but they then add in a "shrinkage charge" - in other words, the b/f price they quote is before the kiln, and you typically don't find out what that shrinkage charge is until check-out (it varies according to species).
That's probably why they've stopped carrying very much solid lumber (they used to have a huge selection) - most of that business has gone across town to Capitol City Lumber.

Thanks to both for the information, especially David for the "shrinkage" caveat on the Raleigh location, which is probably the best bet for me. Reminds me of a city "flowage" tax on fuel I ran into one time in CT. Apparently they couldn't tax the product itself, sooo......
By the way - if you decide you want to purchase lumber in the same trip, check out Klingspoor's Woodworking shop on Capitol Boulevard and also Capitol City Lumber. Klingspoor's prices are generally quite low for a retail establishment (and there are no minimums). They've a reasonable selection of North American cabinet-grade hardwoods including the standard walnut, cherry, maple, curly maple, etc..., secondary woods like wide poplar, cedar, and basswood, and some exotics like cocobolo, south american mahogany, ebony, purpleheart and bloodwood.
Capitol City's prices are fairly high, but it's a true lumberyard with a great deal of inventory, and if you're purchasing a lot of something like cherry, ask the guys at the desk if they'll give you a discount for quantity. Like a lot of businesses that cater to contractors and cabinet shops, they've a range of price lists depending on how good a customer you are, whether you have an account, and what quantity you wish to purchase. Their lumber is usually very high grade, and there are no minimums.

David,
Thanks. You've given me a lot of good information. I'll check both places next week. The red oak plywood is my immediate need, For some reason I had missed that there is a Klingspor location in Raleigh. I like their abrasive products.
