My contractors saw just died and I am looking to move up to a cabinet model in the $1500-3000 range. The article in the June 99 issue is interesting, but does anyone have additional insights and new ideas in the last 3 years?
Basic requirements are 10″, 3+Hp, and good size table so I can rip a 4×8 sheet with some ease and safety. Quality cut and a good fence are essential, I don’t want any of the Asian boat anchors that pass for tools.

See Benjamin for a good deal.
BOXMAN,
If you check the posts, you'll find a lot of information and opinions on cabinet saws. You won't find too much new since the 1999 article, other than small price changes. I take it you don't want Taiwanese equipment, so that cancels out everything but Powermatic (Austrian company, US made), General (Canadian) and the European machines.
If you're working primarily with sheet goods, 3 hp. is plenty of power.
Don't forget the old/reconditioned Deltas, Powermatics, Northfields, etc. They all fall within your price range and probably exceed the quality of anything you can buy new.

Boxman,
I own a Powermatic 66 and have been very pleased with it. I believe I paid around $2,200 or so for it. More expensive than the Delta or Jet, but definately worth it.
I agree with Joseph. After searching and reading all reviews I could find I chose a PM 66. I got teh 5 HP, 220V/single-phae unit, but the 3 HP would have been adequate.
It's a great machine and I would buy it over again.
