Andre, I have been using Visual CADD which used to be produced by Corel. It's only 2d but all that I need. Here are the plans for the bookcase I recently posted on the gallery. I'm not sure the attachment wil open but I wanted to try.
*I've been using TurboCad for the past couple of years, an I think that it's easy to learn and use (at least for the 2D features). See my post in another discussion thread for more information Guy Perez "If you have CAD drafting question then ask them now." 12/3/01 4:48pmYou may want to check out IMSI's web site as well. There you'll find a full-featured 15 day trial download of their latest, top-of-the-line version, and can also download a free learning edition that will give you something to try until you're ready to take the plunge. Here's the link: http://www.imsisoft.com
*Bill back to a conversation we had a while ago, I can now open your files but I am still working on a way to convert them over to a file that is viewable to all. Will let you know what I find out.Scott
*Dear Andre:I am an architect and for the past ten years or so, I have used ArchiCAD (from Graphisoft: http://www.graphisoft.com). It was developed by architects and is a fully developed building program. I can design in 3D and on the fly. By contrast, AutoCAD was designed as a 2D drawing program for machine parts and such. Also, see my web page: jamesmcglothlin.com for some examples of the work I've done in 3D. I also use the program to design cabinets, jigs, etc. which I build.Good luck to you,Jim M.
*AndreCheckout this linkwww.SketchUp.comIt's the most intuitive program I have seen. They will send you a free CD that you can try out or if your patient or have a cable or DSL modem you can down load the trial program.
*Scott Franklin, I just read your post about opening CAD drawings. I'm interested in what you figure out. I have had some luck saving them as .dwg and .dxf files although it messes up the drawing a little. I 've e-mailed these to Steve Wargo who has then opened them, so I know that much works. Although these formats are more familiar to most computers than .vcd , I think some type of installation is still necessary to open them. Wouldn't it be neat if this website had the CAD software installed which would allow people to post their CAD drawings to share with others.Bill
*Bill I used a program that I downloaded off the net called IMSI Visual CADD Viewer. It is only a viewer of Cadd drawings, I can't do anything with the picture other than print it. A buddy of mine has a old Cadd Program that he is going to dig up for me that will allow me to convert CADD drawings over to jpeg files. Will let you know when I have it, that way I could convert your drawings over for you so all could see.Scott
*Scott, sounds like a good plan. Not that I have that many drawings. I lost lots of stuff recently to a virus. I have a few that some people might like. It would be cool if Knots could acquire this same CADD to jpeg conversion program so that everyone with drawings that wanted to could post them. A library of sorts could develop. It might even warrant a new folder. In the meantime, what you are doing could be of service to a number of people who might be looking to build a specific piece. Bill
*Bill this is a site I found that has a patch that allows you to save files into a Jpeg file format. I don't know if it will work but it may be worth a try.http://www.visualcadd.org/cadfiles.htmlScott
