I am looking for an inexpensive 2D CAD program for furniture design. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy as I will just be using formy own use and not presenting finished drawings to clients.
What would be some prgrams to fit this bill?
IWould like to keep it under $100.
thanks-Jim

I have used a number of 2D CAD programs and one of the first I used was TurboCAD and later DesignCAD. I see that TurboCADD now sells for around $130 and DesignCAD for $50. I ultimately moved to VisualCADD because I could extend it with my own software but it sounds like you don't need that. I think either TurboCAD or DesignCAD would do the job for you.
sketchup
download google skectchup and you can't beat the price free. There is a section here dedicated to it and great folks to assist and youtube is full of vids. You will get up to speed relatively quickly.
Thanks to both of you for pointing me in the right direction.

CAD
I think your best bet would be Autosketch. It is an autodesk product. It probably retails now for a bit over $100 but you can buy it on ebay for $30-$40. It has a short learning curve, very intuitive as it is a very easy transition from a drafting board. It's compatability with autocad is excellent (if that matters), not a suprise since the same folks make it.
I agree you should look into Sketchup as well, I have the pro version and love it, but I would not be without a 2d cad program.
Best of luck
Rob
I now use SketchUp most of the time and would recommend it. If you'd like an AutoCAD style (and mostly compatible) program then you could try ProgeCAD Smart (http://www.progesoft.com/en/smart-2009). It's a free version of a larger program but is very complete for 2D work. If you know AutoCAD then you'll find it familiar.
