Recently I was designing a shelf cabinet and wanted the shelves to have a smooth transition from small at the top to big at the bottom. Seems simple enough. After filling up several scratch sheets of paper I broke down and created a spreadsheet to help out.
The spreadsheet allows the user to enter the total interior height, the required number of openings, the thickness of the shelf and the height of the smallest opening. It will then calculate the exact opening sizes for a smooth transition top to bottom. Hope you all find it useful.

Shelf Spacing Calculator
Way late to post this but amongst a lot of other tools, WoodMaster for Android has a built in shelf spacing calculator. Nice woodworking app. I'm not very good at math so anything helps.
