I have a Shopfox mortising machine but no drill press. Can I just use drill bits without the hollow chisel so that I don’t have to go out and buy a drill press?

Yes but the speed may be a bit high for most bits

Agree with jako. The speed on a Fox is 3650. That's way to high for regular bits on wood, especially forstners. Don't even think about that super-sonic speed on metal. ha..ha..

I have a Delta mortiser, they only turn @ about 1725 RPM, but never tried drilling with it.

Not very well.
As cheap as a used drill press iscompared to most mortisers, dunno why you'd want to.
