Can anyone identify this wood?
Came from a old barn (80 yrs?) in Kentucky. Thought it might be Wormy American Chestnut, but really not sure.
Thanks in advance.

The pictures are not focused so it's really hard to confirm more than the wormy part. We sell antique chestnut in our shop and it really looks a lot like oak but is very light in weight. That doesn't look like chestnut from what I can see.

Thanks for the response
Sorry about the quality of the pictures, I will try to post some better pics
Thanks again

Looks a bit like black gum , but from the fotos I couldn't say for sure.

I could be way off base here but to me it looks like some very old walnut I've seen before. A good, clear picture or two would help a lot more.
I was also going to suggest walnut. Was it part of the barn structure or something found within?
Besides clearer pics, a shot of the end grain helps, as does information like weight, density, and smell (for example, sassafras looks like chesnut, but has a distinct camphor odor).
