I am offering one sincere “Atta boy” or “Atta girl” to anyone who can tell me how to phonetically pronounce the name of the company that produced the scrub plane I just bought off Ebay. The name is “Kkoest Kglung.” When I look at it I want to say clogged lung which can’t be right. Spell Check wants to substitute “lowest gluing.” Any information on this manufacturer would be appreciated as well. Google doesn’t turn up much.
Thanks,
-Chuck

Sheesh, where was it made, the Netherlands?! I can "do" some Scandinavian pronunciations and accents, roughly, but I'm not sure it's possible to type a phonetic pronunciation of those two words, LOL.
Ko-est (with almost a w sound between the K and and O) Kloooonggg????? I dunno, wrong country I think. Have fun! Picture????
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hmmm, not sure if I can give you the full "Atta girl", but you get an "A" for "effort." The Scandinavian theory could be a good one so you may still be in the running.
Kwost Kloong. That's better than clogged lung. I'll bet Mr. Cherubini and Mr. Williams know something about Kkoest Kglung.
Here is a link to the Ebay site. You can even see how much I paid for it. It's a nice old woody with lots of blade left.

Thanks for the help.
Wow, neat plane. Looks like it could write a book, doesn't it? Have fun!
Anything is better than clogged lung, ROFL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Koist Kloong
'koist' like moist and 'kloong' like loon with a g at the end.

Chuck,
Try Joh Weiss, Vienna Austria.
Some catalog pictures in Handplane General.
Thanks to all who offered help in identifying my plane. I think Koist Kloong has to be a pretty close pronunciation.
Skid,
Thanks for the reference to Handplane Central. The planes on the first catalog sheet are a close resemblance to mine. Also in the text the author states that in 1911 Mr. Weiss purchased the firm of "D. Flir Vorm. Franz Wertheim", a manufacturer of plane irons. That is the name pressed into the iron on my plane. I think I'll post on that forum to see what turns up.
Oh what the heck, "Atta boys" and "Atta Girls" all around!
