I’m wondering if any other Canadians find that they are recieving their subscriptions in the mail consistantly well after the issue is out on news stands locally. The Febuary issue is already out on news stands here and I haven’t recieved it or the preceeding issue. I live on Vancouver Island, not exactly the far north (a 2 hour slow ferry ride from Washington state. I understand the christmas rush and all except this happens throughout the year. In addition when I ordered books this last December from Taunton Press (shipped regular mail) they got here on time. That combined with the store issues arriving on time leads me to believe the tardiness is not(at least not entirely) due to canadian border customs. Am I the only one having this happen?

kovr,
I live in SE Michigan, just North of Windsor, Ontario. (yes, we go South to Canada!) I work for DaimlerChrysler which has a number of Canadian employees. The Christmas cards I sent in early December have just this last week been delivered! This seems to be consistent with Canada Post. Even the Windsor and Brampton (Toronto) assembly plants will FedEX documents back and forth to avoid the post office.
Maybe now that you have a conservative government (grin!), the mail and trains will run on time.

Metro Detroit, Canada norther Neighbor. :)
If it is any consolation I still have not seen the new issue either.
Doug Meyer
Southern California - nowhere near a Canadian neighbor, and no Feb issue here either!
Bob
Quebec City here, and no issue to be seen. Let's not blame only Canada Post ; the US mail also gets to share in the blame. You are all right, however, to take aim at our postal services. JL
PS I ordered the DVD of past issues a while ago (in 2006) and still did not receive anything but a note telling me to be patient while they make some more. Bummer.
Yeah the US postal service is a wonder to behold. I once received 3 issues of a mag in 2 weeks time. (monthly mag) I put a magazine watch on (this is a term in the post office, so I guess this happens a lot) and for 6 months everything came when it should. The watch went off and THAT month half my mags did not show up until they were a couple weeks late.
According to my Post Master Magazines (even if sent first class) are classed as deliverable at the carries discretion. So they have the option if they have a heavy load of not delivering magazines on any given day. They are supposed to make sure they don't delay them long but.......
And best off their is no one short of your local congressman to complain to as their is NO number to get in touch with a person that is above your local Post Master. This may have worked back in the 1700's but if I called my congressman and told him I am not getting my magazines on time he would laugh in my face. Well no he wouldn't as I would never get the chance to talk with him but you get the point)
So good luck with this mess. On the other hand I was at the story yesterday and I did not see the Feb issue on the stands around here either so...

Well as the old saying goes misery loves company so I guess I should be happy you all are in the same boat. As for mailpeople and delaying heavy loads since we live a couple minutes out of town our postman drives in a van from door to door so I doubt that applies. I think remember my FW being delivered in a plastic bag so it can't be the postman even waiting till he's done reading them.
Perhaps this is all an intricate plan on Taunton's part to sell more online subsriptions.
Oh and Mike (mbholden) I'm from Vancouver Island we've pretty much been convinced over the years that there isn't much of a difference between conservative or liberal goverments. Incompetence levels have remained constant .Which is why we choose the NDP as a protest vote to represent (perhaps too strong a word) us.
Kovr,
The posties have no political loyalties. They serve all governments and the Canadian people with an escalating level of deficiency year after year. JL
Doug,
Both sides of the border have postal services that are wonders to behold, but when a piece of mail crosses the border in either direction, I think it is rerouted to the most remote sorting station in the country, where it is then is put on a stage coach pulled by two retired horses that are doing the job simply to pass the time. To add insult to injury, the Canadian Postal services raised their rates at the beginning of 2007. JL
I'm in Calgary.
I have received my Feb issue already. I have found that as of late they have been showing up later. They're usually available on the news stand a few days before I ever get them. The longest has been two weeks, it frustrating waiting for a magazine that's already out.
Buster
Are you referring to issue # 189 - January-February? I've had mine for probably 4 - 5 weeks. I seldom check the newstands but last year one of my issues went astray and F.W. where kind enough to replace it pdq. I'm in the banana belt - souther Ontario.
I thought bannanas required tropical climates.
quite common I have found with many magazine subs. I stopped subscribing partly because of this and the fact that after you take into account the dollar exchange and shipping charge typically added, it doesnt save anything to subscribe.
I just received my copy today. As I was in the gap between renewing my subscription, I bought a copy at the local mag shop last week. Figures!
Well, I guess it is a go figure. I live in the Yukon, only get my mail 3 times a week, and I have coffee stains on my Feb issue already!!! I recieved it last week.
Taunton sends the magazines in bulk to a distributor in the east. They in turn give them to the Post Office to send out. This is presumably more efficient than the US Postal being added to the mix, which at least in this instance leaves them off the hook.I've been a subscriber since the late 70's and sometimes the issues arrive a few days before they hit the newsstands (rarely) but most of the time they are one or two weeks after, and (rarely again) up to a month late. I live in the Fraser Valley and a couple of friends of mine also subscribe. There can be up to a two week difference between the dates that the three of us get ours.Sadly, your not alone.:(
Gave up my subscription years ago for that reason and the fact that the subscription price was only pennies cheaper than newstand. Found that I really only wanted about half of the issues anyway.
