Hi Alan,
Lonnie Bird made one in a recent issue of FWW.

Thanks. I'll look for it.

A search at FWW doesn't come up with anything under candlebox or candle box. do you recall how long ago the article was you are referring to?
Thanks,
Alan - planesaw
Planewaw,
That might have been a "pipe holder" that was illustrated in FWW about 18 months ago. Rob Millard also made some beautiful pipe holders about 2 1/2 years ago...and can be seen on his website.

Thanks. A wonderful example of me not defining terms adequately. I am assuming you are referring to the article on the pipe box. Sometimes also called a candle box.
The type of candle box I am referring to is (probably) the most common. Is horizontal and the top or lid slides off.

I must confess that I was wrong, it was indeed a pipe box by Lonnie Bird. I did a google for horizontal candlebox and found some rather exotic ones, but no plans.
Sorry for the confusion. If I happen to find plans, I will post same.

Not a problem. Would appreciate anything you find. Probably will head to some antique stores and see what I can find.
There is probably something in print somewhere, which I'll find the day after I finish building whatever I come up with.
Thanks,

Planesaw,
Perhaps you've seen this one on e-bay...

This is a pipe box I made from a plan in FWW. We use it for candles since my supply of clay pipes is non existent. The small drawer is used to keep books of matches. The wood is tiger striped white oak

Beautiful. As I indicated just a minute ago in the (probably) post just above this one, I am looking for a detail plan or description of the horizontal version of candle boxes.
Where the lid slides out.
Thanks,

Plane,
There is a plan for a candlebox drawn by Carlyle Lynch. The original is in the Old Salem museum, in Winston-Salem, NC. The box is about 8"wide x 14" long x 3 1/2"tall, dovetailed, with a sliding raised panel for a lid. The reproduction boxes that I make are sold in the gift shop there, they used to also have the blueprints for sale there. Lynch's grand-daughter sells the plans. She is in TX, phone# 817-861-1619

Here is a simple I built a few years ago.
John,
Thanks. That is a pipe box (I realize it is sometimes called a candle box) and I am looking for a candle box that would horizontal with a sliding lid.
I saved the link in case I would ever make a pipe box.
Thanks,
