Why can I not enter the contest to win the Shaper Origin????
really annoying to say the least, whilst answering my question be cognizant that your answer will dictate wether I remain a “PAYING” customer or not…I always figured that my currency was…you know…Green enough.

I had no problem.
I live in Ontario, Canada. I've subscribed to FineWoodworking and FineHomebuilding off and on over the past 20 years. As a Canadian, I am denied the opportunity to enter any and all contests as well.
Nova Scotia here!
Quebec not a chance of any contest outside the province
Same for BC!
Marc (and all of our friends to the north),
Unfortunately, we don't set the terms for the giveaways, they're set by the sweepstakes sponsor. Many times, shipping and international regulations make difficult it include everyone.
Diversity, a strong economy, universal health care, low crime, great beer.
The sweepstakes thing is a dealbreaker. I have never felt bad for Canadians until now.
@ _MJ_ hahaha! Awesome! It’s about time we Canadians had to face some serious adversity lol!!

I'm sure that the sweepstakes sponsor would be happy if your "friends up north" were prepared to cover the additional shipping and tax costs involved in sending the giveaway item, should they be a winner, to them. Canadian taxes on the wholesale price of the shaper origin wouldn't be that much.
It's your friends in other countries, e.g. Australia, New Zealand, Europe, etc who might bulk at the additional costs involved is shipping the sweepstakes prize to them.
Ian, a quick internet search of ‘international sweepstakes or giveaways’ will lead you to the info that is it the governments who create laws that prevent contests and giveaways from being international, not the sponsor of the item being given away.
There are a number of rules and regulations that vary by country and even province in Canada, that prevent contests from ever being able to be legally held internationally. It just requires too many lawyers and no one can justify that for a giveaway.
All the best from Canada!
Same down south in México.... US should make it easier for the neighbors, right?
Well then, thank you Ben for clarifying/identifying the “restrictions” for me. I feel somewhat infantile to be complaining about such trivial issues. To the other folks who responded...thank you for your input.
Ben...I guess we can reinstate my membership...the alternatives are not worth it. I will now crawl back under my rock and remain a fully funded “lurker”.
:)
