Hi all. I have an antique Captain’s Chair that’s in need of a little TLC. The main problem is rips to the leather arms but I’ll have to search elsewhere for advice on that. The other problem is that the spindles are loose so the back of the chair frequently falls out when sitting/tilting.
I wondered how these are supposed to be kept in place? Are they simply supposed to be tighter fitting and they’ve worn away over time? Or should they be glued in? Any other suggestions for a complete amateur…?
Thanks all.

Show us images of the chair opened up so we can see the loose spindles and how the chair was built. Tough to suggest a fix w/o seeing the guts of it.
