Hi all.
I am a long time lurker, and have a question. I have done a alot of routing but have never used a spiral router bit. I was thinking about picking up the 1/2, 3/8, 1/4 inch set from MLCS I have ordered their products before and found they worked well for me.
My question is what set do I want for general dado and motise work? I understand that the upcuts throw chips up and vice versa with the down cuts. Just wanted your alls opinnions.

For solid wood you'll probably want up-cuts. The mortise slot will still clog up some with shavings but not as bad as with a down-cut. The main reason down-cuts have some appeal is for cutting through veneered panels where you dont want to take the chance of having the up-cut lift up and tear away the thin veneer around the bit.
If you build it he will come.
I just got their spiral flush trim bit today. I will try to let you know how it goes. I was specifically wanting to avoid tearout on inside radiuses (radii?) when pattern routing. Forest Girl tipped me onto the MCLS, and others have said good things. I like my plain spiral bit a lot. Doesn't seem to grab as much as you start the cut.
I have some CMT spiral bits and have been really please with the way they cut. I always get upcut vs. downcut mixed up, read the catolog I think the bits that pull the stock to the shank of the bit are less likley to give you trouble. Look at the catologs to make sure you get the ones that you need.
