hi, i am hoping to get some feedback on this.
i have recently come into possession of 24 solid carbide jointer knives, it turns out though that they are smaller than normal ( 5 7/8 x 1/2 x 3/32, while 6 1/8 x 5/8 x 1/8 seems to be standard).
my question is does anybody think it would be possible or wise to use these in my 6″ jointer. obviously i would be losing 1/4″ of working width, but will the smaller size cause any other problems (such as a dangerously loose fit)?
any feedback would be greatly appreciated. i hope this will work because i would hate to toss these out.
btw, i don’t know if this makes a difference, but these knives are double edged/reversible.
thanks

pjw,
As long as the tightening screws are long enough to compensate for the missing 1/32" knife thickness (and they certainly shoud be), there should be no problem.

Ship me a couple of sets and I'll try them out for you.
They should be fine. I've had mine re-sharpened a few times by a friend and they're nearly the size you describe and they work fine.
I would use them, as long as there is enough meat to clamp them well. You might lose some depth of cut, but its a good price for a bunch of blades.
hi,
thanks for the fast feedback. i'm glad to hear you think is workable, as i have had some people asking to buy sets, but i could'n in good conscience sell them if i thought this was a bad idea. also want to use some myself, of course, but now i feel better about doing it.
