Has anyone turned carob? What can I expect from some 6yr old pieces? Your input would be welcome. Thanks Jako

I have turned Carob...
I have turned Carob, it is one of my favorite woods to turn. I am not sure about your comment on 6 years old. Is the piece you have from a 6 year old tree, or has it been drying for 6 years?
The wood is close grained and ranges on color, pieces I have turned are from a pinkish to an orangish in color. It finishes well especially when buffed using compounds.
Happy Turning
Yes it was roughed out and has been drying for 6 yrs. Some friends were clearing out and gave me the blanks and a few cracked pieces.I am busy and just didn't want to waste a lot of time on some useless material. However now I will put some effort into it.Thanks Jako
