Several of my large carpenter clamps will not stay tite, the screw simply unturns. One of them will unscrew the othe screw when tightening. Any suggestions? Malcolm

Dear mal,
If you are talking about pipe clamps, like the Pony type, it may be the clamps are slipping on the pipe. Some pipe clamps only work well with black pipe.

It sounds like the screws may have gotten grease or oil on them. Try cleaning them with solvent or very hot soapy water. Better if you can disassemble them to thoroughly clean the interior of the nut.
You might try peening the sides of the nut to tighten it up just a little bit.
And tighten with even clamping pressure as you work your way down the clamps.
Thanks, I'll try both. I have always put a little thin oil on the screws, I think I can tighten better. Thanks, Malcolm
