Anyone have experience with converting a 14″ bandsaw (Delta 1hp in my case) from cool block guides to the Carter bearing guides?
Is is worth the $150?
Thanks

I bought -- and returned -- the Carter Guides for my Jet 14" band saw. I really didn't see a terrific benefit to them. Especially when you consider how expensive they are. I use Cool Blocks regularly and have been getting absolutely straight, clean cuts.
My only mishap with Cool Blocks was one day when I had them loose in the guides and sucked one of them up with my Shop Vac. That wouldn't have happened with Carter Guides. But I really can't blame the Cool Blocks for that! Also, it only cost me a couple of dollars to replace them.

You might want to get the article that ran in Fine Woodworking last year that discussed aftermarket guides. In general, Cool Blocks were the recommendation for 14" bandsaws unless the saw was dedicated to resawing. Then, the Iturra bandrollers were suggested.
For 18 BS's the Iturra was again recommended.
The large diameter of the Carters actually reduce support for the cut because the gripping points are raised quite a bit from the point of cutting. For Taiwan saws, this exacerbates the problem with the lower support position.
