I purchased a Delta 1-hp 14″ bandsaw with the Carter guides last year. The guides consist of an upper and lower assembly, each of which have five roller bearings: four lateral (two left and two right) and one thrust. My problem is that three of the bearings, all lateral, do not spin as freely as the others. My initial suspicion was that sawdust has been packing into the bearings, but than I read somewhere that they are supposed to be lubricated and sealed for life, so I don’t know what to think. Is there a way to unstick the bearings or do I need to send for replacements? The Delta literature was not very helpful with this subject and since the bandsaw came with the guides already installed, there was no Carter literature to speak of. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Call Delta...they have a two year warranty. They will respond in spite of the negative comments on their service. I've had good luck. I just had a so called professional 8" jointer replaced because no one at our company thought to call and inquire qbout the problem. Or call Carter if you bought the guides from them. Come to think of it I assume you put these on later as I don't think Carter guides are sold by Delta. I may be mistaken and it wouldn't be the first time. I've generally found each manufacturer to be more than willing to work with customers who are having problems. Have all your purchase information handy like serial numbers, model number and receipts.

Rick, thanks for your suggestion. The model I have is the 28-263 Platinum Edition. The Carter guides were included and were installed at the factory. Therefore, no instructions from Carter were included. The Delta instructions only detail adjustments; they don't even mention installation because it was already done. Delta also stocks these guides under their own model number, 28-198, for after-market purchase. I'll give them a call and see what kind of results I can get.
Ricky,
If you don't get the information you need from Delta, just contact Carter.
