I PRESENTLY USE 10-12 COATS OF NITROCELLULOSE LACQUER REDUCED 25% TO CREATE A HIGH GLOSS FINISH ON HUMIDORS. I'M THINKING ABOUT SWITCHING TO CATALYZED LACQUER. CAN THIS STUFF BE LAYERED ON AS THICKLY AS NITROCELLUSLOSE? IF NOT 10-12 COATS, HOW MANY ARE RECOMMENDED. THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS A 3 MIL LAYER OF CATALYZED WHICH ISN'T GOING TO GIVE ME THE BUILD UP I WANT. SO - HOW FAR CAN I PUSH THIS STUFF BEFORE I RUN INTO PROBLEMS?
*Ive used some catalized lacquers and have tried to spray just another coat and have had the finishes cracle and peel , if your looking to build up the thickness of the lacquer why not build the sealer not the final coat. I use james day sanding sealer and just build and build this sealer up till it turns white let it dry and it's thick and clear then a quick coat of catalized lacquer and ::POOF:: I,m done.
*Catalyzed finishes are HIGHLY toxic I stay away from them
*We use cat lac and cat Kemvar regularly, but not on items that need a controlled moisture content. The material is highly toxic, so a spray booth is almost necessary. What about an auto clearcoat? It's both hi-glos and hi-build. I would talk to tech support at the paint store that you use regularly, this is usually the best source of advice for your individual finishing problems.Bob Dinglerwww.craftmanannex.com
